  • There will be a Retirement Open House for Laurie Feuchtenberger on Thursday, April 28. Stop in and say hi to Laurie from 3:00-6:00 at Reflections Hair Salon.

  • An Attic, Basement, Closet and Bake Sale will be held on Friday, April 29 from 3:30–7 p.m. and Saturday, April 30 from 8–11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran

Church, 315 South Columbia. This is a fundraiser for Kids In Christ

Preschool.

  • Unused prescription drugs can be dropped off, free of charge, at the Stevens County Courthouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 30. The drop-off is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s second National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Law enforcement officials will be taking in the unused drugs at the large garage doors in the parking lot behind the courthouse.

  • Pizza Ranch is having a fundraiser for the Trailduster Saddle Club on Monday, May 2, from 5-8:00. A percentage of every sale made will be donated to the club.
  • Saturday, April 30 at 10:00am, David Suddarth from St. Paul will present The Basics of Evidence Analysis at the Stevens County Historical Society, 116 W 6th Street.  In order to get the most out of documents you collect that contain information on an ancestor, proper analysis is essential. This lecture will introduce you to the basics of sound analysis, and demonstrate how to use these techniques in analyzing evidence embedded in documents.

  • The 2nd Annual Mitchell Kleindl Memorial 3-D Archery Shoot will be held April 30th 8- 5 and May 1st 8 – 3 at Neimackl Park. Campsites are available. For more information, call Terry at 320-808-0447. Sponsored by the Herman Norcross Sportsman’s Club.

  • Experience the reawakening of the Garden at the West Central Research and Outreach Center by joining us for a sunrise walk at 8:00 AM, Saturday, May 7.  Ron Wienhold will point out and explain the more subtle signs of spring as we walk around the horticulture garden and surrounding areas.  Meet in the Pomme de Terre Overlook parking area. $6.00 fee includes a light breakfast. Registration preferred by May 4th, walk-ins are welcome. Register by calling 589-1711.

  • Someplace Safe will be holding a Dad’s Belgian Waffles fundraiser on Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Old #1 Southside. All you can eat including: sausage, orange juice, coffee & 10 different toppings. $8 for adults, $6 for ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 & under. Sponsored in part by Old #1, St. Mary’s Church, Assumption Church and Willie’s Super Valu. Advance tickets will save you $1 and are being sold at Bremer Bank and all 3 branches of United Farmers and Merchants.

  • Tickets on sale now for the opening performance of “A Funny Thing Happened” a contemporary Christian musical performed by New Wine.  Dessert Theatre performance on Sunday, May 8th at 7pm at First Lutheran Church, 200 East 5th Street.  Advance ticket sales only…$8.  Stop by the church office to purchase tickets. Additional Dessert Theatre performances will be held on May 11, 14 & 15.
  • The Symphonic Winds will perform its last concert of the spring semester on Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall. Tickets will be sold at the door and in advance at the information desk in the UMM Student Center. Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $3 for children and senior citizens, and $1 for UMM students with ID.

  • The fourth annual Bread N’ Bowls fundraising event is scheduled from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, at the Morris Area Elementary School cafeteria. A meal of soups, homemade breads, beverages, and desserts donated by area businesses, organizations, and individuals will be served. Ceramic bowls made by UMM ceramics and Morris Area High School Art Club members are included with the meal purchase. Tickets are $10. Students and senior citizens are $5. Kids five and under eat free.

  • Stop in at Keepers Floral and enjoy some refreshments during their Open House on Thursday, May 5, from 10-5.

  • The Stevens County Geneological Society will meet on Thursday, May 5 at the Morris Public Library in Morris at 1:30 p.m.
  • Attend the Cinco de Mayo Celebration, Community Meal, and Fundraiser on Thursday, May 5, at the Morris American Legion. Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door, and include an authentic Mexican meal (4:30-8:00), raffle prizes, games for kids, music, and a karaoke contest (from 8-9:00). A silent auction will be offered. Tickets available at RiverWood Bank.

  • Please stop by the Prairie Renaissance Cultural Alliance to pick up an entry form for the PRCA Annual Amateur Photo Contest. All photos and forms must be received by Saturday, June 11 at 2 pm to be included.  A digital copy of the entry form can be found at prairierenaissance.org.

Theatre Notes:  The Theatre is working on a special showing of the new movie Thor on its national premier May 6th. Stay tuned for more details!  We are also negotiating to get Kung Fu Panda 2 when it is released later in May.

Prairie Pioneer Days buttons go on sale Monday, May 2, at the following locations: Bank of the West, Bremer Bank, Jerry’s U-Save, RiverWood Bank, United Farmer’s & Merchant’s State Bank and Willie’s Super Valu. The Buttons are $5 each, and purchasers will be entered in 9 weekly drawings for Chamber Cash. The first eight winners will receive $50 in Chamber Cash; the grand prize of $100 Chamber Cash will be awarded after the parade on July 10.  The first drawing will be Friday, May 13. The sooner you purchase your button, the more chances you have to win. Winners will be posted on the Chamber Facebook page after the weekly drawings.
