- The fourth week of the Kiwanis Talent Show Contest will be held tonight, Thursday, June 30 at 7 p.m. in the band shell at East Side Park. The contest is preceded by a supper served by the Kiwanis Club for $6. The menu includes: cheeseburger or brat, chips, pop and ice cream sandwich. An extra burger or brat can be purchased for $3.
- The Morris Public Library will host Friday Flicks on Friday, July 1 at 2 p.m. at the Library. Popcorn and drinks will be provided. Contact the Library for the movie title.
- Hancock’s 4th of July parade will start at 1:00 on Monday, July 4, with the Kiddie Parade. The main parade will begin at 1:30, and the famous fireworks are at dusk. For a complete lineup of the weekend’s events, please visit the new website at http://www.hancockmn.org/.
- A Morris Community Blood Drive will be held at Oyate Hall, UMM on Wednesday, July 6 from 12:30-6:30. Call 589-4240 for an appointment.
- The next Book Bunch date at the Morris Public Library will be Thursday, July 7 from 12–1 p.m. at the Library for grades 4th & up. Bring your own lunch. There is no cost to attend this event, but please pre-register by call the Library at 589-1634. Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan will be read. Other dates include: July 14 and July 21. Additional activities will be planned each week to go along with the book.

Matt Carrington was the 6th Prairie Pioneer Days Button winner!
- The third week of the Kiwanis Talent Show Contest will be held tonight, Thursday, June 23 at 7 p.m. in the band shell at East Side Park. The contest is preceded by a supper served by the Kiwanis Club for $6. The menu includes: cheeseburger or brat, chips, pop and ice cream sandwich. An extra burger or brat can be purchased for $3.
- As part of Hunger Awareness month Bremer Bank will be hosting a hot dog & brat lunch at Willie’s SuperValu on Friday, June 24 from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Free will donations. All proceeds benefit the Hunger Awareness campaign. Bremer is also collecting food shelf and/or monetary donations the month of June. Donations can be dropped off at the bank. Bremer cookbooks are also on sale!
- The Morris Public Library will host Friday Flicks on Friday, June 24 at 2 p.m. at the Library. Popcorn and drinks will be provided. Contact the Library for the movie title.
- A Spaghetti Dinner, Sock Hop & Silent Auction will be held on Saturday, June 25, at the Moonshine Steakhouse in Chokio. Dinner is 6-8, and the dance with a DJ is 8-12. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
- Good Shepherd Lutheran church of rural Morris will be holding a dedication service for the “new” church on Sunday, June 26th at 9 am. A program “remembering the past and looking forward to the future” will follow the services. After the program there will be a dinner and time of fellowship. Everyone is invited to attend. The church is located at 20490 480th Ave (1 mile N or Morris). For more info call Pastor Mike Hanson at 320-287-3218.
- Ross Sutter will entertain with a story and song at the Morris Public Library on Monday, June 27 at 6:00 p.m. Free hot dogs provided by Willie’s Super Valu and free drinks provided by McDonalds will be served before the program begins at 5:30 p.m.
- Thrivent Financial is sponsoring a Financial Independence: It Is Women’s Work event on Tuesday, June 28 from 5:15–7:30 p.m. at Bello Cucina. Reservations required. For further information contact Allan or Wayne at 589-1731.
- Join us in welcoming our New Wine Troupe back from their 10 day tour to Denver, CO and catch their final performance of “A Funny Thing Happened.” Tuesday, June 28th at 7:00pm at First Lutheran Church in Morris. This performance is free and open to everyone!
- A class on “Marketing your Website” will be offered on Tuesday, June 28th from 6 -9 pm. at the Hancock School computer lab. This class is being offered in Stevens County through the Minnesota Intelligent Rural Communities Program. Ryan Pesch, U of M Extension Educator will present. This class is open to everyone in Stevens County. Registration is required; contact Carolyn Peterson at 320-585-6700.
- Evink Construction’s Relay for Life Team will be holding a Hancock Cookout on Tuesday, June 28th from 5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m. at the Hancock Community Center. They will be serving Hamburgers, Brats, Chips, and Bars. Free will donation. Proceeds will go to towards the Stevens County Relay for Life to be held on July 15th at Pomme De Terre Park in Morris.
- Lunch Bunch will be held at the Morris Public Library on Wednesday, June 29 from 12–1 p.m. The theme will be “One World Many Colors”. For children grades K–3rd. Bring your own lunch. There is no cost to attend this event. Please pre-register by calling 589-1634.
- WCROC Horticulture Garden in Morris will again be hosting a series of family gardening programs. Summer Fun in the Garden begins at 6pm with an optional supper. This week’s event is Wednesday, June 29th. Dennis Johnson will lead a talk and tour of the Hardy Shrub Roses and Kristin Koch will share activities with the children. The program is free; there is a fee for the supper. Other dates in this series of events will be July 13, and Aug. 10.
- Minnesota mystery author Jeff Falkingham is back again in Morris to talk about Sherlock Holmes – the literary figure in films and books. There will be two opportunities to hear him speak at the Morris Public Library, Wednesday, June 29th at 3 and 7 p.m. “Sherlock Holmes in Three Acts”.
- The next Book Bunch date at the Morris Public Library will be Thursday, June 30 from 12–1 p.m. at the Library for grades 4th & up. Bring your own lunch. There is no cost to attend this event, but please pre-register at 589-1634. Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan will be read. Other dates include: July 7, July 14 and July 21.
- A new community group, Morris Area PFLAG, has formed and will be meeting the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Thursday of every month, 7 p.m. at the Morris Public Library. For more information, contact mapflag@gmail.com.
- The Stevens County Relay for Life will be held on July 15 & 16 at the Pomme de Terre Park. Opening Ceremonies begin at 6:00 p.m. Any individual or business who would like to help in the fight against cancer is asked to contribute an item or items for the Silent Auction, Door Prizes and/ or Bingo Prizes at the event. Items can be dropped off at Federated Telephone’s offices in either Chokio or Morris by Monday, July 11th. If you have any questions, please contact Julie at 585-6505.
- Sweet Lily’s has begun their summer hours and will now be open Saturdays from 9 a.m.—1 p.m.

- The second week of the Kiwanis Talent Show Contest will be held tonight, Thursday, June 16 at 7 p.m. in the band shell at East Side Park. The contest is preceded by a supper served by the Kiwanis Club for $6. The menu includes: cheeseburger or brat, chips, pop and ice cream sandwich. An extra burger or brat can be purchased for $3. - The Morris Public Library will host Friday Flicks beginning Friday, June 17 at 2 p.m. at the Library. Popcorn and drinks will be provided. Contact the Library for the movie title.
- Morris Area Bands will present their first PLAY-A-THON Friday, June 17 – Saturday, June 18. 24 hours of live music open to the public. 6 p.m.–9 p.m. at East Side Park, 9 p.m.–9 a.m. at Morris Area Elementary School and 9 a.m.–6 p.m. at East Side Park. This is a free-will fundraiser for the benefit of a student who is unable to finance her medical bills.
- The Morris Public Library will be holding a Movie Matinee of Desk Set, starring Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, on Saturday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate 125 years of service. This event is free and open to the public. 102 East 6th Street, 320-589-1634.
- Bremer Bank is Taking Action Against Hunger – we will be having a Silent Auction in our lobby Monday – Friday, June 20 – 24 from 9:00– 3:00 each day. Many businesses have donated gift baskets or gift certificates for the public to bid on. Bremer cookbooks will also be available for sale at $10.00 each. All proceeds will go to Second Harvest Heartland. The Otto Bremer Foundation is matching up to $50,000 for the Corporate wide Taking Action Against Hunger Campaign.
- The Morris Area Chamber is having a Pizza Ranch Fundraiser! Order your favorite pizza or chicken for dine-in, carry-out or delivery from 5-8:00 pm Monday, June 20, and support the Chamber at the same time! Board members will be on hand to bus tables.

- Morris Coop is sponsoring a coloring contest. Pick up your coloring pages at either of our locations – Cenex Convenience Store or Cenex North Station. Prizes will be awarded in several age brackets. Pictures are due back on July 16, 2011.

- Federated Telephone’s Customer Appreciation Picnic & Annual Meeting will be held Thursday, June 9 at the Morris Area High School. The picnic will be served from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. and the meeting will be called to order at 6:00 p.m.

The contest is preceded by a supper served by the Kiwanis Club for $6. The menu includes: cheeseburger or brat, chips, pop and ice cream sandwich. An extra burger or brat can be purchased for $3.
- Cyrus Days festivities are set to begin on Friday, June 10. Friday events city wide garage sales, Family Fun Night at 7:00 pm at the Cyrus School with door prizes, face and hair painting, and Karaoke followed by fireworks at Dusk at the Pete Bright Ball Field. On Saturday, June 11 the day will begin with a fishing tournament at Long Lake, a Golf Tournament at Pomme De Terre Golf Club, and city wide garage sales. The Classic Car show will run from 9:00 until noon along with a craft fair and food vendors. The Cyrus parade will begin at 1:00 with our Grand Marshall, Lois Ness, followed by Fire Department Water Wars at 3:00 and a community supper at 5:00 served at the Lariat. The street dance will begin at 9:00 featuring, Them Pesky Kids. Sunday, June 12 events include community church at 10:30 in the city park behind Odds and Ends followed by a potluck in the same location. The Sunday Tractor Pull will begin at 1:00 followed by R & R wrestling at 4:00 in the Lariat parking lot. Please call (320) 287-0164 or (320) 287-1515 with any late event registrations and questions. - The Chokio Community Picnic will be held Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11. Events include: “Find Mary” Contest, Kids’ Pedal Tractor Pull, Prairie Pursuit 5K/10K Walk/Run, Co-ed Softball Tournament, Kids’ Games, Kiddie Parade, Main Parade, Live Auction, Free Swim, Street Dance and much more! The Chokio Community Club now has a Facebook page. Check out the up-to-date information and contacts for each event.
- The Stampede 4-H Club is hosting a Ride for a Cure on Friday, June 10, from 6 p.m.-Midnight at the Stevens County Fairgrounds, to raise money for the American Cancer Society. We would like to invite the public to participate by either riding horse or walking! For more information on how to participate, contact Jean at 589-3381.
- The Stampede 4-H Club will be holding a Horse Tack Swap on Friday, June 10 from 6 p.m.-12 a.m. at the Stevens County Fairgrounds. For more information contact Jean at 589-3381.
- The 2011 Chokio Community Picnic Prairie Pursuit 5K & 10K Walk/Run will be held on Saturday, June 11 at 8 a.m. at Westside Park in Chokio. Registration is $10 and all proceeds will be given to the Chokio Community Pool. Registration forms are available at the Tri-County Co-op in Chokio, Willie’s Super Valu in Morris, register online at www.prairiepursuit.com or register at 7 a.m. the morning of the run. - June is hunger awareness month and Bremer Bank is raising funds to help feed families. Order from Pizza Hut Monday, June 13 – Thursday, June 16 and 20% of the proceeds will be donated to Bremer Bank’s Taking Action Against Hunger campaign. Pizza Hut flyers can be picked up at Bremer. Bremer will also be collecting food shelf and/or monetary donations the month of June. Donations can be dropped off at the bank. Bremer cookbooks are also on sale!
- On Monday, June 13, the Morris Public Library will host a “Toy Theatre” from 1 – 3 p.m. for children grades K–6th. This event will kick off their summer reading program. Children will make a “theatre” and “stick puppets” to perform a story. This event is sponsored by the Center for the Arts. There is no cost to attend this event, but registration is required by calling the Morris Public Library at 320-589-1634.
- A Free Hazardous Waste Collection will be held on Wednesday, June 15 at the Chokio Highway Garage from 10 AM–2 PM. Examples of acceptable items: paints, stains, varnish, aerosol products, garden pesticides, automotive fluids, household cleaners & rechargeable batteries. Items not accepted: business wastes, farm chemicals, asbestos, explosives or fluorescent bulbs. Contact Stevens County Environmental Services for more information at (320) 208-6558.

- WCROC Horticulture Garden in Morris will again be hosting a series of family gardening programs. Summer Fun in the Garden begins at 6pm with a light optional supper, and at 7pm a presentation by a Master Gardener on a topic of interest to the home gardener and a garden activity conducted by 4-H for children. This week’s event is Wednesday, June 15th. Sue Gooch, Stevens Co. Master Gardener, will speak on Mulches for the Garden and Kristin Koch, Stevens Co. 4-H Coordinator will share activities with the children. The program is free; there is a small fee for the grilled light supper. Other dates in this series of events will be June 29, July 13, and Aug. 10.
- Federated Telephone, Farmers Mutual Telephone Company and the Stevens County Economic Improvement Commission will be hosting a training seminar on Broadband for Business on Thursday, June 16 at the Morris Area Elementary School Concert Hall. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the training follows from 8:30 a.m. –11:30 a.m. This unique training seminar will provide a general overview of telecommunications, broadband and the internet along with consumer trends. There is no charge to attend this seminar, but registration is required. Register by emailing sceic@hometownsolutions.net or calling 320-585-2609.

- Morris Area High School Graduation will be held on Friday, June 3 at 7 p.m. in the Morris Area Elementary Gym.
- Stevens Community Medical Center will be sponsoring their 4th annual Relay for Life Fundraiser on Tuesday, June 7th from 4:30–6:30 p.m. on the patio by NovaCare Rehabilitation on First Street. In case of inclement weather, it will be held in side SCMC. The menu includes walking tacos, bars and beverages (free will offering).
- Faith Lutheran Church is holding Vacation Bible School June 7-June 11 from 8:30-Noon. You can register your child at www.faithlutheranmorris.org.
- The 2011 Chokio Community Picnic Prairie Pursuit 5K & 10K Walk/Run will be held on Saturday, June 11 at 8 a.m. at Westside Park in Chokio. Registration is $10 and all proceeds will be given to the Chokio Community Pool. Registration forms are available at the Tri-County Co-op in Chokio, Willie’s Super Valu in Morris, register online at www.prairiepursuit.com or register at 7 a.m. the morning of the run. - Do you want to use a computer but don’t know where to start? Adult Basic Education can help. Free daytime computer classes are on-going and held on Wednesdays from 2–4 p.m. in Morris. You will learn how to: use the mouse and keyboard, navigate the computer screen, use the Microsoft Windows operating system, start up and shut down the computer correctly, use the internet and web browsers and so much more! - The Stampede 4-H Club is hosting a Ride for a Cure on Friday, June 10, from 6 p.m.-Midnight at the Stevens County Fairgrounds, to raise money for the American Cancer Society. We would like to invite the public to participate by either riding horse or walking! There will be a Horse Tack Swap at the same time. Bring your own table. - Morris Kiwanis is seeking contestants for the Annual Kiwanis Talent Contest! The Annual Kiwanis Talent Contests will be held on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. on June 9, 16, 23 and 30th at the Eastside Park band shell. Winners from each evening will take home a cash prize and the right to come back on July 8 for the contest finals for a larger cash prize and an opportunity to go on to the State Fair Amateur contest. If you are interested in being a contestant you can download an application from the Morris Kiwanis website www.morriskiwanis.org or contact Ken Hodgson at 320-589-4468 for more information.
