- The MAHS Agriculture Leadership and Communications Class is organizing CHA CHA 4 A CURE! 100% of earnings fund cancer research through the Hormel Institute. This event is open to individuals, business donations or organization donations towards a GREAT cause. Also, have some FUN doing the Cha Cha Slide on the Football Field at halftime on Oct. 7th. - Pomme de Terre Foods will celebrate its 40th anniversary 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, September 22 at East Side Park in Morris. The co-op’s celebration, “40 Years of Fabulous Food,” is open to the community and will feature a pasta buffet and potluck. Pomme de Terre will provide the pasta and attendees can bring a dish to share. The event will feature music, games, door prizes, poetry and reminiscences. - Prairie Seed Harvest Day, Saturday, Sept. 24, 10-4pm. Come help the Morris Wetland Management District hand-harvest seed from a local remnant prairie. This is a great chance to get out and enjoy some beautiful fall weather and learn about prairie restoration. Training will be provided. Please wear appropriate clothing/footwear for walking in the prairie (not sandals). Call Styron (320-589-4971) to register.
- Piano Recitals: Casey Rafn performs on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the HFA recital hall. Elizabeth Leier performs on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 2:30 p.m. in the HFA recital hall.

Four hours of classroom instruction on Tuesday, September 27th from 5:00-9:00 pm in Room A104 of the Morris Elementary School, then 12 hours online. - A Free Hazardous Waste Collection will be held on Wednesday, September 28 at the Stevens County Highway Garage from 10 AM–2 PM. Examples of acceptable items: paints, stains, varnish, aerosol products, garden pesticides, automotive fluids, household cleaners & rechargeable batteries. Items not accepted: business wastes, farm chemicals, asbestos, explosives or fluorescent bulbs. Contact Stevens County Environmental Services for more information at (320) 208-6558.
- The Fall Sale and Supper at Faith Lutheran Church will be Wednesday, Sept. 28. Meal cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12 years old. For sale: produce, home-baked pies, bag sale, greeting cards, rummage. Supper menu: hotdish, salads, pie, coffee and milk.
- Stevens County Early Childhood and Mental Health Coalition meeting, Thursday, Sept. 29, 11:45 – 1:00pm at Morris ECFE room at the Morris Elementary School. Lunch will be served at 11:45.
- Fundraiser for Salvation Army: Theme Table Brunch & Silent Auction, Saturday, Oct. 1, at Faith Lutheran Church. View tables 9:30-10:30; brunch at 10:30 with program following. Tickets: $10.
- English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes. Classes will be held on Thursday evenings, beginning Sept. 15, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Beginning ESL classes meet in Imholte 113. Intermediate classes meet in Imholte 112. Contact the Office of Community Engagement at 589-6981 for more information.
- “Tech Day” on Sept. 29 is an opportunity to ask specific questions one-on-one with website educator, Ryan Pesch. - The Morris Theatre is in search of a volunteer coordinator. Volunteers are a critical part of the Morris Theatre operations and we would like someone to help organize volunteers so that we can enhance our operations and improve services. Qualifications: good with people, detail oriented, and willing to learn about how theaters are run. Commitment: about 2 hours/week. - FREE Software Training! Stevens County Economic Improvement Commission, Inc. (SCEIC) is offering free, one-year AtomicTraining.com subscriptions in Stevens County. Any business OR INDIVIDUAL in Stevens County is eligible for a subscription to this creative, effective on-line software training. The training is modularized to accommodate the beginner as well as the experienced user. Covers 140+ popular software applications. - Community organizations are invited to apply for AmeriCorps “Students in Service” (SIS) assistance. Local units of government, K-12 schools, or community-based organizations are eligible to apply for SIS assistance before the Oct. 7 deadline. SIS members can assist with services such as research, project administration, marketing, or with other needs of an organization. Projects may address issues such as senior housing, storefront design, healthcare research, program evaluation, document design, newsletter creation, economic analysis, Internet and web training, data analysis, downtown revitalization, and more. - Morris Public Library is hosting an author event/book signing October 6th at 6 pm. Author Norma Knapp (Alexandria) and illustrator Faythe Mills (Glenwood) have teamed up to create, Missing My Best Friend, a story of loss and how to help children cope with death.

- 2011-2012 Performing Arts Series: Lizz Wright performs on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Edson Auditorium. Drawing from folk, blues, jazz, and gospel traditions, this will be a genre-bending musical journey.
- City Wide Garage Sale in Herman, Saturday September 17th, beginning at 8:00 AM. Maps with location of the sales and information will be available at Grandma B’s and Mark’s “C” Store.
- Enjoy the Harvest Holiday Festival at the Morris Armory Saturday, September 17 from 9-2! Craft and Direct Sales Vendors will be showcasing their products. Breakfast and lunch will be served throughout the day. Pumpkin Decorating Contest at 11 am (You bring the pumpkin, we will provide the supplies! Prizes awarded). - Niemackl Lake Park Day with music, food, games, corn maze & prizes is Sunday September 18th. The festivities begin at 10:30 AM. but come when you can. Niemackl Lake Park is located on Highway 9, just north of Morris about 15 miles.
- Assumption Church Septemberfest celebration will be Sept. 18, at 207 East 3rd Street, Morris. 10AM Mass, then lunch (Adults: $7.50, Ages 4-12: $4.00, 3 & under: Free)and activities starting at 11:00. Vikings & Twins on big screens! Vehicle show, food and handicraft sales, raffle, volleyball.
- Morris Sons of Norway Lodge will meet on Monday, September 19at the American Legion in Morris at 7 p.m. The music skills class will start at 5:15 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
- The Jane Addams Project is a cross-cultural discussion circle for Spanish and English-speaking Morris residents and UMM students. The discussion will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 7-9 a.m, in Imholte 111.
- On Friday, Sept. 23 at 2:25 the MAHS Tiger Homecoming Parade will be held. You are invited to participate in it by entering a unit. Contact Peg Rinkenberger at rink@fedtel.net or call 320-589-4400 ext. 2123 and leave a message. You should be in the parade line by 1:30 p.m. that day. Reminder…if you have items or candy to pass out we would like you to have walkers alongside the unit rather than throwing the items from the unit. Thanks!!!

- Morris welcomes the students back to campus! Join the fun at the annual Welcome Picnic and Expo, Sept. 8 at East Side Park. Students and community members are welcome. Serving 5-7PM. Dinner is FREE, courtesy of local businesses and churches. Donations appreciated. Call 589-1242 to sign up for the Expo.
- Dinner in the Garden, Sept. 8, at University of Minnesota West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) Horticultural Display Gardens, Morris. Celebrate the harvest from local farms, orchards and vineyards, and all the pleasures of the seasonable table. Music provided by Dustin Retzlaff and UMM Jazz Ensemble. Dinner at 6:00PM; local wine and cheese tasting begins at 5:30. Advanced ticket purchase ($50/person) necessary. Tickets available at the WCROC or Pomme de Terre Food Coop. Proceeds contribute to the Horticultural Gardens. Call 320-589-1711 for more info.
- An opening reception for the new exhibit Stoked: Five Artists of Fire and Clay will take place on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 5-7 p.m. in the HFA Gallery. This nationally touring art exhibit features the work of noted ceramicist Richard Bresnahan and others.
- Perennial plant sale fundraiser by the Pomme de Terre Garden Club will be Sept. 9 at East Side Park, starting at 4PM and running until 6 or no plants remain. Local gardens are the chief beneficiaries of these funds.
- Courage Cottage’s 10th Anniversary celebration and fundraiser is Sept. 10. The 10K Run/Walk begins at 10:10AM, with last minute registrations at 9:30AM. Start and finish lines are at the Courage Cottage, 409 East 1st Street, Morris. Participants are encouraged to get 10 pledges of $10 apiece. Registration fee is $20 after Sept. 1. Square Dancing starts at 4:30, with a chuck wagon hog roast meal from 5-7 in the open lot west of the hospital. Free-will donations accepted. Call the Courage Cottage for details: 585-5134.
- A Stevens County Dental Outreach Clinic For Kids will be held on Monday, September 12 at the Morris Area Elementary School’s Early Childhood Room. Appointments must be made in advance by calling toll-free 1-877-998-2218 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The dental outreach clinic is specifically designed to provide dental services to children between the ages of 1 and 12 years of age. Dental Health staff will be available to provide all dental services for children covered by Minnesota Health Care Programs and Minnesota Medical Assistance.

- FREE workshop: Starting a Business Website. Thursday, September 15, from 9 to noon, in UMM Imholte Hall Room 11, Computer Lab. Starting a business website doesn’t have to be an intimidating process. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn options to create a business website. - Adair, Della & Friends are back! This year’s show, “Seasonal Songs Etc.”, will be presented Thursday, September 1st at 7:00 p.m. at the Morris Area Elementary Concert Hall. The show features two-piano music, instrumentalists, vocal numbers and audience sing-along. Buy $6 tickets (12 and under free) at John’s Total Entertainment, Keeper’s Floral, By-Lo in Hancock or Lynn’s Café in Starbuck. Proceeds go to “Adair Horgen Music Scholarship Fund” for music students.
- UMM’s student improvisation troupe will perform on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 8 PM in the UMM Student Center’s Edson Auditorium.
- The “Promise of the Prairie” documentary of the history of UMM will be shown on Monday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. in Edson Auditorium, UMM Campus.
- The UMM Art Club will hold a poster sale on Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the Student Center’s Oyate Hall.

- Stevens EMS classes offer great ways for people to learn life-saving and leadership skills. First Responder class runs Sept. 7 – Oct. 5, meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:30-10:30pm. Local employment and volunteer opportunities are available upon class completion. Tuition reimbursementprograms are available to qualified individuals. Class highlights include a ‘hands on’ cardiology lab, visit to the cadaver lab at UMM, water rescue, high level rescue and a trip to Hennepin County Medical Center and the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport Fire Department!
