Business Spotlight July, 2010

Business Spotlight:

Common Cup Coffeehouse

501 Atlantic Ave.

320-589-1200

Common Cup Coffeehouse began operation in 2002 with the backing of Faith Lutheran Church, First Lutheran Church and Lutheran Campus Ministry (LCM) in Morris.  It is located on Main Street at the corner of Atlantic Ave. and W. 5th St.

Common Cup is a charitable non-profit corporation administered by a Board of Directors comprised of three members from each church and two members of LCM plus one at-large youth member.  The capable managers are Rose Wagner and Sue Bruer. The staff comprises local adults, high school and college student workers.

The Cup’s mission is to welcome and connect communities…. especially UMM students to downtown Morris together with people of all ages.  It is a real melting pot of warmth and congeniality!  Check it out!

A variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, muffins, rolls and desserts are served from 7:30 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30-6:00 on Saturday (summer hours).  Common Cup is proud to feature Fair Trade Coffee, and to use locally grown products whenever possible. Fresh produce from our area is incorporated into the menu when in season.  The vast majority  of the menu items, including the cookies, cakes and desserts, are made from scratch on site and fresh daily. This year Baker Rose Wagner is featuring the Cookie-of-the-Month.

Box lunches and catered orders for special parties and receptions are popular.

A Charity-of-the-Month receives donations from the piggy banks at each table and the counter plus $50 from the Cup. The Charity recipients alternate between local and natl./international causes such as the Local Food Shelf, Kids’ Against Hunger, Youth for Christ, Someplace Safe, Habitat for Humanity. Yearly profits are held in escrow and in 2007, $7000 was distributed to seven charities.

In 2008, Common Cup received the MN Restaurant Neighbor Award by the National Restaurant Association.
