Membership Spotlight: The Legacy
Morris has a new home for its aging residents looking for an easier way of living with an atmosphere that feels just like home: The Legacy in Morris. Pete Warnes, along with his business partner who has since passed, started the Legacy about two years ago. The journey has literally been like coming home for Pete, who grew up in the area and has recently returned to start The Legacy. The Legacy has 30 units and can accommodate 45 residents with different floor plans to choose from. Rather than a big corporation, the Legacy is family owned, creating a feeling of family and home among its residents and staff.
“Our facility is beautiful, but it’s the people who live and work here that make it what it is,” Says Tara Ludwig, LPN and Administrator at the Legacy. Tara has been working in nursing homes since she was 16 years old and has worked with large corporations but enjoys the smaller, family-owned operation at The Legacy. The Legacy's mission is to provide quality care with kindness, compassion and sincerity. They are registered as “Housing with Services” and licensed as a Comprehensive Home Care Provider through the Minnesota Department of Health. Their services are extensive including home cooked meals three times a day, weekly laundry and cleaning, 24-hour staffing, medical services, and even local transportation among many other services. They also provide respite care for up to 30 days. The front of their brochure shows a picture of an oak tree to symbolize the roots that The Legacy has in the Morris community. Not only does the owner, Pete Warnes, have roots in the Morris area, but many of the residents grew up and lived here their whole lives. They are proud to have a facility where people can live as they get older without having to leave their home roots.
The Legacy is also establishing some fun traditions for residents and staff. For example, this year they had a Mother's Day Tea which was wonderful. They also served 96 people at the first family cook out, and hope to have even more mouths to feed next year. There were snow cones and cotton candy, and it was a big hit with the residents and staff. One resident had never had cotton candy in his whole life and got to experience the taste for the first time at the party. They will have a Christmas open house coming up soon for residents and their families along with a luau party with six-foot palm trees. Clearly there are a lot of fun social activities and parties for people to look forward to. It's that personal touch that sets The Legacy apart from bigger corporations: they just care about each and every person as a person, not a number. We are proud to have such a facility in our town of Morris.
